The trail finds every loose bolt and worn part you've been ignoring. A ten-minute check before you air down saves you a long recovery - or a tow. Here's the quick pre-trail run-through the crew at American Fusion Wheels uses in the shop, whether you're rolling out from Shawnee, Overland Park, Olathe or anywhere in the Kansas City metro.
1. Tires and pressure
Check tread, look for sidewall cuts, and set your pressures for the terrain - airing down for grip, then back up for the road home.
2. Suspension and steering
Bounce the corners and look for shock leaks. Check track bar, tie rods, ball joints and sway-bar links for play - the parts that take a beating on articulation.
3. Fluids
Engine oil, coolant, brake, and especially your diffs and transfer case. Water crossings and hard angles find low or contaminated fluid fast.
4. Skid plates, armor and recovery points
Make sure skids and armor are bolted tight, and that you've got rated recovery points - not a bumper bracket you're hoping holds.
5. Lighting, winch and re-torque
Test your aux lights and winch, then re-torque the stuff that loosens on a lifted rig: lug nuts, control-arm bolts, track bar and skid plates.
Do it once, do it right. Running bigger tires and a lift changes the loads on every joint. If it's been a while - or before a big trip - let us put it on the rack for a full off-road inspection: suspension, brakes, undercarriage and a 4-wheel alignment. Call American Fusion Wheels at (913) 291-2027 or book an off-road inspection.
