Lift Kit Installation — Trucks, Jeeps & SUVs

American Fusion Wheels is the Kansas City metro's most trusted shop for lift kit installation. We install every type of lift — spacer lifts, body lifts, full suspension systems, and premium coilover conversions — on trucks, Jeeps, and SUVs of all makes and models. Whether you want a 2-inch level for a cleaner daily driver or a 6-inch suspension lift for serious trail duty, our technicians deliver precise, safe installations with a full alignment included every time.

Lift Kit Types We Install

Choosing the right lift type is the most important decision in your build. Here is what we offer:

  • Spacer & Strut Extension Lifts — The simplest and most affordable option. A precision-machined spacer sits on top of the factory strut or coil spring, raising the front end 1-3 inches. Ideal for truck owners who want a level stance and room for slightly larger tires without replacing factory suspension components. Installation takes 1-3 hours including alignment.
  • Body Lifts — Spacers between the body and frame raise the body 1-3 inches without altering suspension geometry. Less expensive than suspension lifts and allows larger tires, but does not increase ground clearance under the axles. Popular on trucks where frame clearance is adequate but fender clearance is tight.
  • Suspension Lifts — The most popular lift type. Replaces springs, shocks, and often control arms to raise the entire vehicle 3-6+ inches. Improves ground clearance at every point — axles, frame, bumpers — and significantly increases off-road capability. This is what most KC truck and Jeep owners choose for a balanced build that handles daily driving and weekend trails.
  • Coilover & Long-Arm Systems — Premium performance setups with adjustable ride height and damping. Fox 2.5 Performance Elite, Icon Stage systems, and King coilovers deliver the ultimate in both on-road comfort and off-road articulation. Ideal for overlanding, dedicated trail rigs, and high-end builds.

Brands We Install

We carry and install the lift kit industry's most trusted brands:

  • Budget-Friendly: Rough Country, Zone Offroad, Pro Comp — reliable lifts at accessible price points with strong warranty coverage
  • Mid-Range Performance: BDS Suspension, Fabtech, ReadyLift, Skyjacker — excellent ride quality, complete kits, and proven durability
  • Premium Performance: Fox Racing Shox, Icon Vehicle Dynamics, King Shocks, Mopar — adjustable coilovers, remote reservoirs, and race-proven damping technology
  • Jeep-Specific: Teraflex, MetalCloak, Rock Krawler, JKS — purpose-built for Wrangler JK/JL, Gladiator JT, and Cherokee platforms

Tire Fitment by Lift Height

One of the most common questions we hear is "what size tires can I run?" Here is a general guide:

  • 2-2.5 inch level: 33-inch tires on most half-ton trucks
  • 3-4 inch lift: 33-35 inch tires with proper wheel offset
  • 6 inch lift: 35-37 inch tires (some trucks may need minor fender trimming)
  • 8+ inch lift: 37-40 inch tires (requires long-arm kit, regearing recommended)

Exact fitment depends on your specific vehicle, wheel size, backspacing, and body style. We verify every combination before installation to ensure zero rubbing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about lift kits at American Fusion Wheels.

What types of lift kits are there?

There are four main types of lift kits, each serving different goals and budgets:

  • Spacer / Strut Extension Lifts (1-3 inches) — A spacer sits on top of the factory strut or coil spring. The most affordable option. Great for leveling or a mild lift without replacing factory components. Quick install, typically 1-3 hours.
  • Body Lifts (1-3 inches) — Spacers between the body and frame raise the body without changing suspension geometry. Less expensive than suspension lifts but does not increase ground clearance under the axles. Best for clearance to fit larger tires.
  • Suspension Lifts (3-6+ inches) — Replaces springs, shocks, and often control arms to raise the entire vehicle. Improves ground clearance, articulation, and off-road capability. The most popular choice for trucks and Jeeps that see both street and trail use.
  • Coilover / Long-Arm Systems (3-8+ inches) — Premium performance systems with adjustable ride height and damping. Brands like Fox, Icon, and King offer reservoir shocks and long-travel setups. Ideal for serious off-road builds and overlanding rigs.
How much does a lift kit cost installed?

Lift kit pricing depends on the type, height, vehicle, and brand. Here are typical ranges at American Fusion Wheels:

  • Leveling kits: $200-500 installed (parts + labor + alignment)
  • Body lifts: $400-900 installed
  • Suspension lifts (3-4 inch): $1,200-3,000 installed with alignment
  • Suspension lifts (6+ inch): $2,500-5,000+ installed
  • Premium coilover systems (Fox, Icon): $4,000-8,000+ installed

All prices include parts, professional installation, full alignment, and safety inspection. We offer six financing options including no-credit-check plans. Call 913-291-2027 for an exact quote for your vehicle.

What is the difference between a lift kit and a leveling kit?

A leveling kit raises only the front of your truck 1-2.5 inches to eliminate the factory nose-down rake, creating a level stance. It is fast to install ($200-500) and allows slightly larger tires — typically 33s on a half-ton truck. A lift kit raises the entire vehicle — front and rear — by 3-8+ inches using new springs, shocks, and suspension components. Lift kits cost more ($1,200-5,000+) but deliver significantly more ground clearance, bigger tire fitment (35s-37s), and improved off-road performance. Choose a leveling kit if you want a clean stance on a budget. Choose a lift kit if you want maximum clearance, aggressive tires, and trail capability.

What size lift kit do I need?

The right lift height depends on your tire goals and how you drive:

  • 2-2.5 inch leveling kit: Level stance, fit 33-inch tires on most half-tons
  • 3-4 inch lift: Fit 33-35 inch tires comfortably. Best balance of looks, capability, and daily driveability. Most popular lift height for street-driven trucks.
  • 6 inch lift: Fit 35-37 inch tires. Aggressive look, strong off-road capability. May require additional modifications like driveshaft spacers or regearing.
  • 8+ inch lift: Fit 37-40 inch tires. Show truck or dedicated off-road builds. Usually requires long-arm kits, driveshaft modifications, regearing, and extended brake lines.

Our technicians assess your vehicle, discuss your driving habits, and recommend the right height to avoid unnecessary cost or driveability issues.

Which lift kit brand is best?

The best brand depends on your budget and goals. Here is how the brands we install compare:

  • Rough Country — Budget-friendly, reliable, huge selection. Best for truck owners who want a solid lift without breaking the bank. Limited lifetime warranty.
  • ReadyLift — Excellent leveling and mild lift kits. Maintains factory ride quality. Popular for daily drivers.
  • BDS Suspension — Mid-range performance. Great ride quality with NX2 shocks. 5-year warranty on most systems.
  • Fabtech — Mid to premium range. Known for complete kits with all necessary hardware. Stealth and Dirt Logic shock options.
  • Fox Racing Shox — Premium performance. 2.0 and 2.5 series shocks with adjustable damping. Industry standard for off-road performance.
  • Icon Vehicle Dynamics — Top-tier. Adjustable coilovers, remote reservoirs, long-travel systems. Built for serious off-road and overland builds.
Will a lift kit void my vehicle warranty?

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your entire warranty just because you installed a lift kit. They can only deny a claim if they can prove the modification directly caused the failure. For example, if your transmission fails and the dealer can show the lift caused abnormal driveline angles, that specific claim could be denied — but your warranty on unrelated systems (electrical, interior, engine) remains intact. We use quality components and proven installation methods that work alongside factory systems. Most lift kit manufacturers also include their own warranty coverage on components.

Do I need to regear after installing a lift kit?

It depends on the tire size. If you go from factory tires to 33s, regearing is usually unnecessary — your truck will perform fine with the stock gear ratio. Moving to 35-inch tires, some drivers notice sluggish acceleration and lower fuel economy, especially with automatic transmissions. Regearing to 4.56 or 4.88 ratios restores power and shift points. With 37-inch or larger tires, regearing is strongly recommended and often essential for driveability. We offer regearing services and can quote the complete package — lift, tires, and gears — so everything is done under one roof.

Is alignment included with lift kit installation?

Yes. A full four-wheel alignment is included with every lift kit installation at American Fusion Wheels at no extra charge. Changing your vehicle's ride height alters camber, caster, and toe angles. Without proper alignment, your tires will wear unevenly and your vehicle may pull to one side. We use Hunter alignment equipment and adjust specifically for aftermarket suspension geometry, not just factory specs. This is a critical step that many shops skip or charge extra for.

Can you install a lift kit I purchased myself?

Absolutely. We install customer-supplied lift kits regularly. Just confirm the kit is complete with all hardware and instructions before your appointment — missing parts can delay the job. We charge a labor-only rate for customer-supplied kits. Note that kits purchased through us may include a parts warranty and price-match guarantee that customer-supplied kits do not, so factor that into your decision.

How long does lift kit installation take?

Installation time depends on the type of lift and your vehicle:

  • Leveling kits: 1-2 hours
  • Body lifts: 3-5 hours
  • Suspension lifts (3-4 inch): 4-6 hours
  • Suspension lifts (6+ inch): 6-10 hours
  • Long-arm / coilover systems: 8-12 hours

All times include alignment and test drive. Most lifts are completed same-day. We recommend scheduling an appointment so we can reserve the lift bay and have your kit ready. Drop off in the morning, pick up your newly lifted truck or Jeep by the end of the day.

"Had a 6-inch BDS lift installed on my F-150 XLT along with 35-inch Toyo Open Country AT3s and Fuel Rebel wheels. Drove from Lee's Summit and it was worth every mile. The alignment was perfect — zero pull, zero vibration, even at highway speed. They showed me the before and after alignment printout. Other shops in the area wanted to charge extra for alignment after a lift. At AFW it is included with every lift kit. The truck sits exactly how I wanted it and the ride quality is better than I expected for a 6-inch lift. Already sent two buddies from work over here."
