There are four main types of lift kits, each serving different goals and budgets:

• Spacer / Strut Extension Lifts (1-3 inches) — A spacer sits on top of the factory strut or coil spring. The most affordable option. Great for leveling or a mild lift without replacing factory components. Quick install, typically 1-3 hours.
• Body Lifts (1-3 inches) — Spacers between the body and frame raise the body without changing suspension geometry. Less expensive than suspension lifts but does not increase ground clearance under the axles. Best for clearance to fit larger tires.
• Suspension Lifts (3-6+ inches) — Replaces springs, shocks, and often control arms to raise the entire vehicle. Improves ground clearance, articulation, and off-road capability. The most popular choice for trucks and Jeeps that see both street and trail use.
• Coilover / Long-Arm Systems (3-8+ inches) — Premium performance systems with adjustable ride height and damping. Brands like Fox, Icon, and King offer reservoir shocks and long-travel setups. Ideal for serious off-road builds and overlanding rigs.

• Body lifts: $400-900 installed
• Suspension lifts (3-4 inch): $1,200-3,000 installed with alignment

• Premium coilover systems (Fox, Icon): $4,000-8,000+ installed

A leveling kit raises only the front of your truck 1-2.5 inches to eliminate the factory nose-down rake, creating a level stance. It is fast to install ($200-500) and allows slightly larger tires — typically 33s on a half-ton truck. A lift kit raises the entire vehicle — front and rear — by 3-8+ inches using new springs, shocks, and suspension components. Lift kits cost more ($1,200-5,000+) but deliver significantly more ground clearance, bigger tire fitment (35s-37s), and improved off-road performance. Choose a leveling kit if you want a clean stance on a budget. Choose a lift kit if you want maximum clearance, aggressive tires, and trail capability.

The right lift height depends on your tire goals and how you drive:

• 2-2.5 inch leveling kit: Level stance, fit 33-inch tires on most half-tons
• 3-4 inch lift: Fit 33-35 inch tires comfortably. Best balance of looks, capability, and daily driveability. Most popular lift height for street-driven trucks.
• 6 inch lift: Fit 35-37 inch tires. Aggressive look, strong off-road capability. May require additional modifications like driveshaft spacers or regearing.
• 8+ inch lift: Fit 37-40 inch tires. Show truck or dedicated off-road builds. Usually requires long-arm kits, driveshaft modifications, regearing, and extended brake lines.

Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, a dealer cannot void your entire warranty just because you installed a lift kit. They can only deny a claim if they can prove the modification directly caused the failure. For example, if your transmission fails and the dealer can show the lift caused abnormal driveline angles, that specific claim could be denied — but your warranty on unrelated systems (electrical, interior, engine) remains intact. We use quality components and proven installation methods that work alongside factory systems. Most lift kit manufacturers also include their own warranty coverage on components.

It depends on the tire size. If you go from factory tires to 33s, regearing is usually unnecessary — your truck will perform fine with the stock gear ratio. Moving to 35-inch tires, some drivers notice sluggish acceleration and lower fuel economy, especially with automatic transmissions. Regearing to 4.56 or 4.88 ratios restores power and shift points. With 37-inch or larger tires, regearing is strongly recommended and often essential for driveability. Yes. A full four-wheel alignment is included with every lift kit installation at American Fusion Wheels at no extra charge. Changing your vehicle's ride height alters camber, caster, and toe angles. Without proper alignment, your tires will wear unevenly and your vehicle may pull to one side. We use Hunter alignment equipment and adjust specifically for aftermarket suspension geometry, not just factory specs. This is a critical step that many shops skip or charge extra for.

Absolutely. We install customer-supplied lift kits regularly. Just confirm the kit is complete with all hardware and instructions before your appointment — missing parts can delay the job. We charge a labor-only rate for customer-supplied kits. Note that kits purchased through us may include a parts warranty and price-match guarantee that customer-supplied kits do not, so factor that into your decision.
