Leveling Kit Installation

A leveling kit installed at American Fusion Wheels typically runs $200 to $500 total including parts, labor, and alignment. Spacer-style kits are the most affordable at $100 to $200 for parts. Strut extension and coil spring kits run $150 to $300 for parts. Installation labor is typically $150 to $250 including alignment. This makes leveling kits one of the most cost-effective truck upgrades available — far less than a full lift kit while still delivering a noticeable visual and functional improvement.

A leveling kit raises only the front of your truck — typically 2 to 2.5 inches — to match the factory rear height. It eliminates the nose-down rake and allows slightly larger tires. A lift kit raises the entire truck — front and rear — by 3 to 8+ inches using new springs, shocks, control arms, and other components. Lift kits cost significantly more ($1,500 to $5,000+) and allow much larger tires. A leveling kit is the right choice if you want a level stance with 33-inch tires on a budget. A lift kit is the right choice if you want maximum ground clearance and 35-inch or larger tires.

With a 2 to 2.5 inch leveling kit, most half-ton trucks (F-150, Silverado 1500, Ram 1500) can fit 33-inch tires on stock wheels without rubbing. Some trucks with factory 20-inch wheels may accommodate 33s even with a smaller level. Fitting 35-inch tires on a leveling kit alone is possible on some trucks but often requires fender trimming or additional modifications. We verify tire clearance for your specific truck before recommending a size.

A leveling kit does slightly reduce the amount of front-end squat available when towing, since the front is already raised. However, for most half-ton towing situations — boat trailers, utility trailers, small campers — the impact is minimal and rarely noticed. If you tow heavy loads (10,000+ lbs) regularly, we recommend discussing your towing needs during consultation. For heavy-duty towing trucks, we may recommend a different approach that preserves full towing geometry.

Most leveling kit installations take 1 to 3 hours including a full Hunter alignment. Spacer-style kits on trucks with easy front-end access (like Ram trucks with coil springs) are often done in about an hour. Strut-based trucks (like F-150s and Silverados) take 2 to 3 hours because the front strut assembly needs to be removed and reassembled. We recommend scheduling an appointment so your truck is in and out quickly.

Quality leveling kits have minimal impact on ride quality. Spacer-style kits simply add a spacer on top of the factory strut or spring — the factory suspension components continue to do their job. You may notice a very slightly firmer feel over bumps due to the change in suspension geometry, but most customers report no noticeable difference in daily driving comfort. Coil spring leveling kits can actually improve ride quality if paired with upgraded springs.

Typically no — if your truck already has a lift kit, the front-to-rear height should already be level or close to it. Leveling kits are designed specifically for factory-height trucks with the stock nose-down rake. If your lifted truck still sits lower in the front than the rear, the lift kit itself may need adjustment rather than adding a leveling kit on top.
