33-Inch Tires

The most common off-road upgrade and the best starting point for most builds. Metric equivalents include 285/70R17, 285/65R18, and 33x12.50R17. A 33-inch tire adds approximately one inch of ground clearance over stock, gives your truck a noticeably more aggressive stance, and usually requires only a leveling kit or 2-3 inch lift for proper clearance on full-size trucks. Jeep Wranglers fit 33s with a 1.5-2.5 inch lift depending on the wheel offset. This is the sweet spot for drivers who want the off-road look and improved capability without major drivetrain modifications.

35-Inch Tires

A serious upgrade that transforms both the look and capability of your truck or Jeep. Metric equivalents include 315/70R17, 35x12.50R17, and 315/75R16. Fitting 35s on a full-size truck typically requires a 3-4 inch lift, wheels with -12 to -24mm offset, and possible fender trimming or crash bar relocation. Jeep Wranglers need a 2.5-3.5 inch lift with proper backspacing. At this size, regearing the differential is strongly recommended — most trucks benefit from 4.56 gears to restore responsive acceleration and reasonable fuel economy. Weight increase over 33s is significant (10-15 pounds per tire), so upgrading brakes is worth considering for heavy towing applications.

37-Inch Tires

The province of dedicated builds. At 37 inches, you are adding 3+ inches of ground clearance over stock and dramatically changing the truck's proportions. Metric equivalents include 37x12.50R17 and 37x13.50R20. Most full-size trucks require a 6 inch or taller lift with extensive modification — fender flares or trimming, crash bar removal, extended brake lines, possible driveshaft modifications, and differential regearing to 4.88 or higher. Jeep Wranglers need a 3.5-4 inch lift at minimum with flat fender flares. At this size, the cost of supporting modifications often equals or exceeds the cost of the tires themselves.
