All Jeep Wrangler JK (2007-2018), JL (2018+), and Gladiator JT models use a 5x127mm bolt pattern, commonly called 5x5. This pattern is shared across the entire modern Wrangler and Gladiator lineup, which means wheels are interchangeable between these platforms. Older TJ and YJ Wranglers used a 5x4.5 (5x114.3) pattern and are not compatible without adapters.

The most popular Wrangler wheel setup is a 17x9 wheel with 4.5 to 5 inches of backspacing paired with 35x12.50R17 tires on a 2.5-inch lift. This combination fills the wheel wells, provides strong off-road traction, and maintains good highway manners. For a more aggressive look, 37x12.50R17 tires on a 3.5-inch lift make a dramatic visual and functional impact. Eighteen-inch wheels are popular for street-oriented builds, while 17-inch wheels offer the widest selection of off-road tire sizes.

It depends on your factory gear ratio. Rubicon models with 4.10 gears can run 35-inch tires acceptably with the automatic transmission, though regearing to 4.56 noticeably improves performance. Sport and Sahara models with 3.45 or 3.73 gears will feel significantly underpowered with 35s and strongly benefit from regearing to 4.56. If you have a manual transmission Wrangler, regearing is almost always necessary with 35-inch tires because you cannot rely on the torque converter to mask the ratio change.

For most lifted Wranglers running 35-inch tires, a wheel with -12 to -24mm offset (4.5 to 5 inches of backspacing) provides optimal tire placement. Too much negative offset pushes the tire outward past the fender and increases stress on wheel bearings. Too little offset tucks the tire too far inward and causes rubbing on the inner fender. We verify offset compatibility with your specific lift, fender setup, and tire width before recommending a wheel.
