The VR38DETT twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 is an engineering masterpiece — overbuilt from the factory and capable of handling extraordinary power levels with the right modifications. Every part we install is selected from the brands that the GT-R community has proven on the street, the strip, and the track: AMS Performance, Alpha Performance, HKS, Tomei, Rays, Volk, Advan, HRE, Forgeline, and EcuTek.

Exhaust & Downpipes — Downpipes are the single most impactful bolt-on modification on the R35 GT-R. The factory catalytic converters are extremely restrictive, and replacing them with high-flow catted or test pipe downpipes reduces backpressure dramatically — improving turbo spool, increasing power, and unleashing the VR38's signature mechanical growl. We pair downpipes with full cat-back exhaust systems from HKS, Tomei, AMS Performance, Invidia, and AAM Competition. Titanium and stainless steel options available. The VR38's unique exhaust note — a deep, aggressive pulse from its flat-plane-inspired firing order — is one of the GT-R's defining characteristics, and a quality exhaust amplifies it perfectly.

Turbo Upgrades — The R35 GT-R's VR38DETT is built to handle power. AMS Performance Alpha turbo kits are the gold standard for GT-R turbo upgrades. The Alpha 7 delivers 700 to 850 HP as a direct bolt-on replacement for the factory turbos — the most popular first turbo upgrade. The Alpha 9 pushes 850 to 1,000+ HP. The Alpha 10, 12, and 16 series scale up to 1,100, 1,500, and 2,000+ HP for full race builds. HKS GT1000 and GT800 kits offer proven Japanese engineering for high-HP applications. We build GT-Rs at every power level — from a 600 HP daily driver to a 1,500 HP drag car. Every turbo build includes proper supporting modifications: fuel system upgrades, intercooler, intake, wastegate actuators, and EcuTek tuning.

Intercooler & Intake — Keeping intake temperatures low is critical on a boosted GT-R, especially at higher power levels. AMS Performance, ETS, and HKS intercooler upgrades dramatically reduce intake air temperatures under sustained boost for consistent power delivery. Cold air intake systems from HKS, AMS, and AAM replace the factory airbox with high-flow filters and smooth intake piping. These are foundational modifications for any GT-R power build and are required to support turbo upgrades safely.

Wheels & Tires — The right wheels are essential for the GT-R's performance and appearance. 5x114.3 bolt pattern with 66.1mm hub bore. 20-inch wheels are standard — 20x9.5 to 20x10.5 front and 20x10.5 to 20x11 rear for staggered setups. Forged and flow-formed options from Rays Volk (TE37, CE28, ZE40), Advan (GT, RS, RZ), HRE, Forgeline, BC Forged, and Titan7. The GT-R's massive Brembo brake calipers require proper inner barrel clearance — we verify fitment on every wheel. Every package includes mounting, road force balancing, TPMS programming, and heat-rated performance tires from Michelin, Bridgestone, Toyo, and Nitto.

TCM/ECM Tuning — Professional tuning is not optional on a modified GT-R — it is essential. The R35's ECM controls the engine and the TCM manages the GR6 dual-clutch transmission. Both need calibration to safely handle increased power. EcuTek is the industry-standard tuning platform, offering full ECM and TCM calibration with real-time data logging. The TCM tune is especially critical — the GR6 transmission needs proper clutch pressure maps to handle higher torque without slipping or causing premature wear. Cobb Accessport offers accessible tuning with pre-loaded maps and custom tune support. Every tuned GT-R we build leaves our shop with verified power on data logs and proper TCM calibration.

PPF & Protection — The GT-R's wide body, low stance, and front-mounted intercooler make it especially vulnerable to road debris. Professional paint protection film (PPF) on the front bumper, hood, fenders, side skirts, and mirror caps. Ceramic coating for long-lasting gloss and hydrophobic protection. Professional window tint for UV protection and heat rejection. GT-R-specific clear bra templates ensure precise coverage on the car's complex body lines, vents, and intakes.
