Death wobble is terrifying. You hit a bump at highway speed and your entire Jeep starts violently shaking — the steering wheel oscillates back and forth so hard you can barely hold on. It feels like the front end is going to fall off. But it is fixable.

What Causes Death Wobble
Death wobble is NOT caused by one single part. It is caused by wear in your front end components that allows the front axle to oscillate uncontrollably. Common culprits:
- Worn track bar — the most common cause. The track bar controls lateral axle movement.
- Worn ball joints
- Loose or worn tie rod ends
- Bad steering stabilizer (this is a bandaid, not a fix)
- Worn wheel bearings
- Out-of-balance tires or incorrect alignment
How We Fix It
At AFW, we inspect every front-end component systematically. We do not just throw a steering stabilizer at it and hope for the best. We find the actual worn component, replace it, and then align the vehicle. Most death wobble fixes cost $200-$800 depending on which parts need replacement.
Prevention
Regular inspections of track bar bushings, ball joints, and tie rods. Keep your alignment in spec. Road Force balance your tires. Torque your lug nuts properly. If you have a lift kit, make sure all components are torqued and the alignment accounts for the new geometry.
