KC road salt destroys trucks. Every winter, MoDOT and KDOT dump thousands of tons of salt and brine on I-435, I-35, I-70, and every major road in the metro. That salt attacks your frame, brake lines, suspension components, and paint. Here is how to protect your investment.

5 Ways to Protect Your Truck from Salt
1. Ceramic Coating ($350-$1,500)
Ceramic coating creates a hydrophobic barrier on your paint that repels salt water, making it harder for salt to bond to your clear coat. Lasts 2-5 years depending on the package.
2. Undercoating
Rubberized undercoating sprayed on your frame, suspension, and undercarriage creates a physical barrier between metal and salt. Especially important for lifted trucks with exposed components.
3. Window Tint
Ceramic window tint does not directly protect from salt, but it reduces winter sun glare and helps retain cabin heat — both winter benefits.
4. Wash Regularly
Wash your truck every 1-2 weeks during salt season (November through March). Focus on the undercarriage. Touchless car washes with undercarriage spray are best.
5. Powder Coating
Powder coating your wheels protects them from salt corrosion. Much more durable than paint.
